Functional Spaces
November 6, 2023
Interior design is about more than making things look pretty; it’s about creating liveable and functional spaces that accommodate the needs of the client. At MDI, we pride ourselves on balancing aesthetics with practicality to cater to the lifestyle of each member of the family. In this blog post, we’ll show you some of our favorite functional spaces!
Butler Pantries
Butler pantries have been making a comeback, and for good reason! These concealed storage and prep areas offer a functional solution for busy families. Imagine hosting a dinner party and having a designated space to store extra dishes, stage food, or even mix drinks away from the social main kitchen. We love how the design of the primary kitchen carries over into these butler pantries. The wine fridge is an added bonus!
Craft Room
For families of artists, creatives, and DIY enthusiasts, a cozy, calm, and functional craft room is like an oasis. At MDI, we understand the importance of storage in a craft room. Custom built-in shelves, drawers, and cubbies can neatly store all supplies, while a designated work surface provides space for crafters to spread out. We love how the natural light and calming color palette in this craft room balance out the colorful supplies.
Functional Bunk Rooms
Bunk rooms are a fantastic way to accommodate larger groups, especially families with multiple children. We challenge the idea that bunk rooms are just for sleeping. They become spaces of togetherness and memories for friends and family. There are so many opportunities for additional function in a well-designed bunk room. We have transformed bunk rooms into versatile spaces with reading corners, hangout spaces, charging nooks, and additional storage built into each bunk. Bright colors work for a younger, more playful crowd, while neutral tones provide a more sophisticated look.
Fold Away Bed
When you need a multi-purpose room that can adapt to different needs, Murphy beds come to the rescue. They offer a comfortable place to sleep while folding up discreetly when not in use. By day, this room serves as a cozy upstairs den. By night, it transforms into an additional cozy bedroom for guests. The built-in shelves blend the Murphy bed seamlessly into the room’s design.
Creating functional spaces for every member of the family to enjoy is our primary goal at MDI. We truly believe in designing spaces that support your family’s lifestyle. For more inspiration, explore our portfolio!
